This series is what you’re looking for! The Lucky Needle Apprentice Course was developed to teach you everything you will need to know to start upholstery.
Even if you are just starting out or have some experience these videos will teach you a strong foundation of the most important skills and knowledge you will need to start producing high quality projects.
I’m very grateful for these comprehensive and well-organized course videos explaining all the basics of auto upholstery. Many of the techniques can be applied to furniture upholstery as well. It comes with multiple PDFs that can be downloaded for quick reference guides for the tools and materials that you’ll need to build a successful upholstery business. I have already started working in the trade after a few short weeks. Let’s keep this dying trade alive!
I purchased the apprentice course not long after buying my first industrial machine. The course provides so much necessary information and so many practice techniques. If you’re totally in the dark, as I was, this is the right place to start.
Apprentice course is the best of the bests so far. I am complete beginner and I would be very confident to start practicing when finishing this course. I cannot wait to start the rest of the courses.
I purchased this course to learn how to upholster vehicle seats and interiors. Lucky Needle has a professional grasp of the fundamentals of instruction and nothing is taken for granted—everything is meticulously explained. My tip, start from the beginning even if you don’t think you need to.
I thought this course was very thorough in the practical aspects of upholstery. Sewing machine operation, cleaning, and adjustments gives me great direction for my personal equipment. Understanding the hardware “feet” “hook” and the timing that enables loop and bottom stitch, according to the overall timing will help me troubleshoot machines lacking in the future. For me the different calculations, prep work, and stitch types have provided a curriculum whereby I can practice. The one thing I will add is the Apprentice Course doesn’t go to in depth of industrial sewing machine brands and applications, which could be advantageous for the development of an apprentice. For instance, I’d like to buy an updated machine with features that could give me an advantage. Where do I begin?
I’ve never sewn before. This is great information for a beginner. (A no-nothing like me). By watching and practicing, I’m beginning to build a little confidence.
Thank you for making everything so clear. I had changed out my needle after my new machine was delivered and I inadvertently put it in facing the wrong direction. Thread splitting and nests of knots, your video helped me “unravel” my problem!
Love the new format, couple math errors and a few spelling errors BUT I found it to be very informative And can’t wait to go to the next lesson!
I’m about half way through the Apprentice course right now. I have never sewn in my life and was somewhat intimidated by the sewing machine. I repair Leather, Vinyl and Plastic for a living. Right now, when there is work to do that involves sewing I have to send it to one of the upholsterers that I work with. I like my upholsters and there are some jobs that I will always give to them. But I hate giving away the money to just do a simple panel replacement. This course is helping me get over my intimidation and I can see the day when I will be able to do those repairs. One thing I really like about these lessons is how they are broken up into short easy to understand sections. I don’t have any cording right now, so I can’t do the welting part until UPS delivers my stuff. So I can keep going and go back to those lessons later or back to the lesson on French Seams later for a refresher.
I purchased the course about a year ago and was quite happy with it. The new courses along with updating the older ones is such an improvement.
I’m going to enjoy putting my interior together after watching these video’s and then applying the information.
Even though I have sewn tops, sail covers, and cushions for my boats I found this course informative. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of problems with the web site and lack of clear information on how to navigate the course and what is expected of the person taking the course.
The videos kept freezing and some times would not start again.
There should be a way to know what segments have been completed without having to go to each lesson to verify it has been completed.
The information and presentation is top notch, the navigation of the web site needs some work.
RESPONSE 3/19/2020: We really appreciate your kind comments about the quality of the information in this course. We greatly apologize for the website difficulty and are actively trying to fix these issues, unfortunately it is taking longer than we had expected. We will send out a notice when these issues have been resolved.
Even though I have sewn tops and sail covers for my boats I learned a lot from this course.
Even though I have sewn some sail covers and tops for my boats I learned a lot from this course.
I self taught myself in 2013 for basic stitches by watching a few youtube videos.
Bought this to learn more after watching the youtube vids. It is good and thought out! Lots of tips and info not only about stitching, but about the equipment and supplies.
I really appreciated the tips all through this course, it wakes up even us elders to simple & quick solutions.
I have learned a great deal for someone who has never messed with a sewing machine. The knowledge shared and video presentation has allowed me to be confident in my upholstery training.
I found this a great inexpensive way to find out if I wanted to pursue the upholstery project on my car. Highly recommended!!
I’m a self taught industrial insulation fabricator. I make removable high temp covers for pipes and vessels. Someone suggested I do auto upholstery. Found your course and already I’ve learned several things I’ve been doing wrong. I cant wait to get deeper into the course. Great instructions. This will definitely help me with my current career and my hobbie interest in auto and marine upholstery.
I have been sewing for 20+ years and still learned some tips
