I’m early on in the Apprentice course and I’m already impressed with the brilliance of this whole concept. I’m a 60 year old auto tech myself so maybe John and I just speak the same language. Using the “Sewing Machine Buyers Guide” from the course, I found a 70 year old Singer 211, that had already made a lifetime living for its previous owner, for $300 on Facebook Marketplace. It was well maintained, but had sat idle for more than a decade after his passing. I bought the rest of the contents from Lonnie’s shop for another $260, including numerous bolts of material, a button maker, buttons galore, and a fair number of tools I have no clue what are. Using the info from lesson 36, “Cleaning your machine”, the original owners guide and a service manual download from the Internet, I’ve got my machine cleaned, oiled and purring like a kitten.
I didn’t really know a bobbin from a seam guide when I started, but can now adjust and maintain my machine proficiently. Feeding the bobbin thread through with the top thread has perplexed me a fair number of hours, but I’m getting it. Also getting pretty good at maintaining a half inch seam and locking my stitch.
So I’m pretty early along on this adventure but I’ve learned a ton and it’s been a blast. So far this course has given me everything I needed to get going. It’s piqued my daughter’s interest as well. It’s probably worth 10 x what you’re charging John, but I wouldn’t have afforded it if it did. So thank you so much for sharing. I’m pretty sure that the guy who piqued my interest on YouTube learned from your course. He, however, had too fragile of ego to send me to the Lucky Needle when I enquired, so I had to find you myself.
To anyone reading my review: if the subject interests you, this course will give you the information and guidance you’ll need to invest in yourself, at a price you can afford. Just do it!
